A few days ago the „Sächsische Aufbaubank“, the central development agency of the Free State of Saxony, granted the funding of the joint research project EUROPure of EUROIMMUN and the University of Applied Sciences of Zittau/Görlitz.
The project aims at the joint development of a robust technology platform permitting cost-efficient and resource-friendly preparation of proteins from biomaterials. The pure proteins are required for the production of sensitive and specific test systems which are applied in the diagnostics of autoimmune and infectious diseases as well as of allergies. However, the techniques currently available are laborious and cost-intensive, the quality and purity of the proteins sometimes inadequate. Now EUROIMMUN intends to develop a new technological solution in cooperation with the University of Applied Science of Zittau/Görlitz, in order to produce high quality immune reagents in one processing step and in high quantity.
The project starts on March 1st 2016 and will run for 2.5 years. Approximately 2.4 million Euros from funds of the European Union (European funds for regional developement, EFRE) are at the researchers’ disposal.
EUROIMMUN’s activities will take place at the site in Rennersdorf/Bernstadt (Saxony). Novel groups performing molecular biological and immune biochemical research have been working there since January 2014. The groups are part of the “Institute for Experimental Immunology”, EUROIMMUN’s research institute, and since their formation, Rennersdorf/Bernstadt has not only been a production site but also a research site. And twelve of the employees are going to be part of the EUROPure project from this month.
